Flying trees and blatant extortion

Arbutus, Scar Mel'Tar, Carrug and Vargo were drafted by the state to do guard duty at one of the entry points to the city after the outpost was completely wrecked by the previous bunch.
At first they went up against a cloudy-eyed tiefling who summoned some nasty chain-wielding things when they tried to extort him for money. Arbutus quickly softened them up with a surprise attack and it all went downhill from there. Between Arb's vine spears of doom, Carrug's ferocious swings, and Vargo's intimidating dollishness they managed to kill summoned creatures before they could poof back to their realm. Neat.
After that, Vargo had to skedaddle, but the party did get a replacement named Marian and her dog.
Next the party accosted an old farmer man travelling down the road (who turned out to be another demon in disguise). While they were trying to get more money out of him, a heavily wounded centauress barrelled down the road chased by evil fey creatures. Arbutus threw trees and Carrug almost chopped his opponent in half while the new blood and her pet battled it out with the demon - before Arb smashed him with the full fury of the forest. 
The centauress (with an apparent history she didn't want to share) thanked the party for the protection and took Arb's offer to come into his forest and start afresh.
In the last hours they just had a little sorceress (who was probably a cheap noble or somethin') and her pet wolves looking for work in DStar and let her through without getting any money off her, shockingly enough.
All in all, it was a pretty good day.
