Hjalrig was the son of the previous grudgebearer, a position in his clan that would record wrong doings done to their people and dispense justice. As Hjalrig grew he knew that he would replace his father as the grudgebearer as he was the eldest son. His training was rigorous such that he could recite all 750 pages of grudges from memory. One day as a Hjalrig was crafting a hammer to gift his younger sister's suitor his village was attacked by daemons. The village was decimated everyone he knew was dying around him as he ran to his father he saw a black figure standing over his father's body. Hjalrig flew into a frenzy and charged the dark figure. a burning sensation coursed over Hjalrig's left cheek. the creature laughed and vanished before Hjalrig's eyes. Hjalrig bent over his father as he gasped his last breathes on the mortal realm. His father's last words were, "Hjalrig my son, you must take on the title of grudgebearer. You must add one more grudge to the grudgebook. Let our souls rest in piece and dispense justice to these daemons." After his father passed, Hjalrig withdrew to his house searching for all the gold he could find he would need much to prepare for his onslaught. Just before he left he went to the temple of Austri, Father of the Dwarves to pray. There he saw one other living dwarf still yet in the village. Gernam Deepaxe the temple's oracle. He must have been hidden away when the village attacked Hjalrig thought. Gernam was an aging dwarf not but a few years from leaving his mortal shackles. Gernam approached Hjalrig and spoke, "Rise grudgebearer that I may see you closer." Hjalrig approached the oracle. The oracle peered into Hjalrig as if looking into his very soul. After 1 hour of staring at Hjalrig the the oracle spoke once more, "Hjalrig, you have been touched by the gods and you will carry out the grudges. Take the treasures in this temple, we will forge you into a weapon of justice and I will accompany you as long as I can." Hjalrig and Gernam set out the following morning to the next largest city, Dweomostar
